Meet A&S Small Pet Services: Having used various pet sitting services for our own pets during holidays and weekends away, I decided to set up my own pet sitting and dog walking business in 2013. I felt that at that time there was a gap in the market for a pet sitter/dog walker who was not only reliable, friendly and trustworthy but also someone who would communicate with me regularly about my pet and highlight any concerns they may have had about changes in my pets behaviour, eating habits or if they felt they were generally off-colour or unwell. So A&S was born.
My background: Growing up around pigeons, dogs, tortoises, rabbits and guinea pigs gave me a love of animals and how to best care for them. My own Father was nick named 'The Bird Man' as he was the first point of call in our road for people to bring wild birds that were poorly or couldn't fly. I was always keen to help out with a home made splint made out of lolly sticks or small pieces of wood, and many of these worked and had great success!
A love of animals: Fast forward into adulthood and my love for animals hasn't changed. We have shared our home with 2 tabby cats, one of whom lived to the ripe old age of 17 and the other sadly who was under one year old when we lost him. We have rescued a couple of pairs of guinea pigs and currently have just the one who is now just turning 5 years old. We initially rescued 6 ex-battery hens when we first moved to Bierton 6 years ago. They were a great introduction into hen keeping and we now have 3 hens that keep us in omlettes and boiled eggs!
Looking ahead: We also have an English Springer Spaniel called Hend, who my husband and I spend most of our free time with. Unfortunately our lovely dog suffers with anxiety and is quite an apprehensive dog around new situations and places. Having an anxious dog who finds it difficult to remain calm and settle has taken me on a long journey of reading books, seeing various trainers, attending various workshops and generally having a keen interest in all areas of enrichment for dogs and other pets. My love for learning about dogs and science-based positive dog training has taken me on a 2 year journey of study with the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT). I have completed and passed both the foundation in positive dog training and the advanced course and have been an assistant dog trainer since August 2017. I will be undertaking my T Touch practitioner training in 2020 and read books and attend various dog training courses and workshops to learn new skills and update my knowledge. I have also completed a pet first aid course.

We have a nervous rescue cat, Phoebe, and we used to hate going away as she would get very stressed but since Sonja has been looking after her she is always in great spirits when we return from our holidays. We don't have to worry as she keeps us informed on a daily basis of how Phoebe is doing, she always lets us know if she has any concerns and we do feel that having Sonja come in twice a day is certainly the best option for our cat.
